Lane Cake

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 sticks ( 1/2 pound) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 8 large egg whites, at room temperature
  • 12 large egg yolks
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 sticks (6 ounces) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 1/2 cups (6 ounces) finely chopped pecans
  • 1 1/2 cups (10 1/2 ounces) finely chopped raisins
  • 1 1/2 cups freshly grated coconut
  • 1/2 cup bourbon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
