Sephardic Green Beans

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large yellow onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 15-ounce cans tomato sauce
  • 1 14 1/2 -ounce can diced canned tomatoes, or 1 1/2 cups fresh tomatoes when in season
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Kosher salt and ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 pounds green beans, ends trimmed
