Ingredients

  • 2 to 3 meaty beef soup bones
  • 3 quarts water
  • 2 small onions, divided
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 medium carrots, cubed
  • 1-1/2 cups canned diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 2 cups cubed cabbage
  • 2 celery ribs, sliced
  • 2 cups cut green beans
  • 3/4 cup medium pearl barley
  • Minced fresh parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Dumplings:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • Pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
