Ingredients
- 4 cups All-purpose flour
- 2 cups Granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 4 large Eggs
- 2 tablespoons Baking powder
- 1 cup Milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 pounds fondant
- various colors food coloring
- 1 batch Royal icing
- 2 Cake boards
- 10 Dowels
Instructions
-
Step 1:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
-
Step 2:
In another bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Stir in the vanilla extract.
-
Step 3:
Divide the batter evenly between two greased and floured cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
-
Step 4:
Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Level the tops of the cakes with a knife if necessary.
-
Step 5:
Place one cake layer on a cake board. Spread a layer of royal icing on top, then place the second cake layer on top. Secure with dowels if necessary for stability.
-
Step 6:
Using a serrated knife, sculpt the cake into a castle shape, creating towers and spires as desired. Crumb coat the entire cake with a thin layer of royal icing.
-
Step 7:
Roll out the fondant and cover the entire cake, smoothing it out to eliminate any air bubbles. Trim any excess fondant from the base.
-
Step 8:
Use food coloring to tint fondant for decorations. Create windows, doors, and other details to enhance the castle design. Use royal icing to attach decorations.
-
Step 9:
Add any final touches, such as edible glitter or additional decorations. Allow the cake to set before serving.
